The Islanders Hot Club Le Hot Club des Insulaires
“ Known and loved for their classic French and Gypsy Swing music! ” - Saturday Night Jazz with Laila Biali, (CBC)
The Islanders Hot Club (Le Hot Club des Insulaires) is a Gypsy Jazz (Manouche) ensemble from Victoria, BC. This trio of vagabonds re-lives the classic era of French Manouche, American Swing, and Italian Shoes. Faster than a New York minute and as smooth as a fine Pinot Noir, these multi-instrumental, multi-lingual, multi-talented players will leave you wanting more. The group is co-led by double bassist Tim Croft and guitarist Nick Mintenko. The band leaders also double on vocals (singing in English et en français!). Bringing his mischievous musette stylings to the band, accordionist Jeff Poynter completes this tasteful trifecta. With modern twists on classic standards and classic takes on modern tunes, the virtuosity of these seasoned pros will keep it swinging all night long.
“I really like your bass solos and I’m also crazy about your voices! I must’ve listened to the tracks on your CD at least 30 times and I still am in love with what you do. Thank you for bringing so much joy to my life.” - Gary Karr, Double Bass Virtuoso
“Keeping arco bass alive and strong!” - Alex Pangman, Juno Nominee and Host of Swing Set (JazzFM91)
"Thank you for your wonderful musical performances. Le Hot Club des Insulaires gave this evening movement and warmth. - Dr. Hélène Cazes Head of UVic French Dept.
